Clinical Research Centre Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (CRC HSNZ) was established in year 2007. As the only CRC in the state of Terengganu, CRC HSNZ functions to promote, support and conduct clinical research in all MOH facilities in Terengganu. CRC HSNZ is actively providing training to these sites in for continuous capacity building.

Dr. Khairul Azmi Bin Ibrahim is a respected Consultant Neurologist and General Physician, currently serving as the Head of the Neurology Unit and the Clinical Research Center at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah. He holds a medical degree (M.B., B.Ch., B.A.O.), a Master’s in Internal Medicine, and has completed subspecialty training in neurology with a fellowship in stroke medicine from the Royal College of Physicians of London. Dr. Khairul Azmi’s expertise lies in neurology, with a special focus on stroke medicine. He has co-authored multiple research articles, exploring topics such as ischemic stroke recurrence, genetic variants in Parkinson's disease, and the impact of COVID-19 on stroke care. His contributions to stroke research emphasize improving the quality of life and secondary prevention for stroke survivors.

  1. Stroke Recurrence Predictors: Analysis of factors influencing ischemic stroke recurrence in non-elderly adults, especially focusing on the impact of diabetes.
  2. Parkinson's Disease Genetics: Investigation of genetic variants (MCCC1/LAMP3, DGKQ, and GBA) in patients of Malay ancestry, contributing to understanding the genetic landscape of Parkinson's disease.

  4. Quality of Life in Stroke Survivors: Research on health-related quality of life and sarcopenia among elderly stroke survivors, exploring associated factors like nutrition, physical activity, and dietary intake.
  5. Stroke Survivor Experiences: Qualitative studies examining perceptions of healthy lifestyle changes for secondary stroke prevention and the needs of caregivers for stroke survivors.
