MPharm, MIS, MSc (Epidemiology), PhD

Areas of interest: Cardiovascular epidemiology, Heart failure trials and registries, Natural language processing of clinical trial eligibility criteria and EMR clinical text

Award and Achievements:

  • Excellent Service Award, Ministry of Health Malaysia (2012, 2018)
  • University Medical Centre Utrecht Global Health Support Program, University Medical Centre Utrecht, Utrecht, the Netherlands (2019)

Yvonne Mei Fong Lim is a researcher trained in clinical epidemiology. Her work uses analytical methods to bring together observational cohorts and clinical trials to estimate generalisability of clinical trials in heart failure and understand the burden and outcomes of patients with heart failure in Malaysia.

She currently leads a cohort study on the effects different low-density lipoprotein cholesterol targets on outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) (LDL-C TITAN, NMRR ID -22- 02886- BW4 (IIR)). The study involves six hospitals in Malaysia and is expected to provide insight to short- and medium-term management of cardiovascular risks in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Yvonne’s research focuses on cardiovascular epidemiology in both primary and secondary care settings with a vision to guide and implement interventions which improve access and quality of care. Her other work includes assessing cardiovascular risks in people living with HIV (CardHIV) and validation of AI-based screening tool to detect developmental delay in young children (DADOC-TOY8).

She is also involved research using natural language processing to understand the impact of major inclusion and exclusion criteria in Alzheimer’s disease trials on patient eligibility and diversity with a goal towards more inclusive and generalisable clinical trials.

Research Highlights

Trends for Readmission and Mortality After Heart Failure Hospitalisation in Malaysia, 2007 to 2016 provided national estimates on important HF outcome metrics and contributed epidemiological data to the 2023 clinical practice guidelines for heart failure.
